Abolishment of Single Nurse Posts

The NT Government is committed to the abolishment of single nurse posts and is in the process of increasing the staffing in these communities.

There are only a small number of remote communities that only have a single nurse. Other staff that work in these health centres include Registered Aboriginal Health Workers, Aboriginal Community Workers, Administration staff, drivers, cleaners and gardeners. Medical support may be provided by someone locally or via a visiting service. Public Health Coordinators, visiting program areas such as maternal and child health, hearing, nutrition, sexual health, visiting specialists, allied health and CQI facilitators all provide additional support to the delivery of primary health services.
